David Lane teaches piano, composition, and music theory. He's composed over 100 concert works, and several films, and has been the arranger for several dozen works. David is scheduled to serve as Vice President of the Winston-Salem Piano Teachers Association starting in the summer of 2023 and currently is the Chair of Composition and Theory for the North Carolina Music Teachers Association. As an instructor, David specializes in teaching piano to adult beginners, teaching music theory to all ages, and offering some conventional as well as non-conventional approaches to learning composition.

He hosts two podcasts, one called The Musician Tool Kit with David Lane and another called Life In The Pit, on which he explores the work of theater musicians. The Musician Tool Kit podcast is a vehicle through which David shares the theme that musicianship is passion and various topics related to musician development.

We talk about his podcasts, his discovery of music composition, collaboration, teaching, and podcasting. Additional topics of conversation include David's self-perception as an accidental musician, his unorthodox career path, the value of supporting other musicians, and aligning core values with one's career path.
